Plum Slate is a beautiful purple slate chipping that will ensure your garden is enhanced with it's strong, rich dark purple coloration that looks stunning, especially when wet.  Plum slate is suitable for use in most landscaping applications including ponds, water features, garden borders or as a weed suppressant. Available in a 20mm or 40mm stone size, Plum Slate is sold in jumbo bulk bags, half bulk bags or 23kg small bags - see our bag size guide below. Please note, this product is not suitable for driveways. Some colour variance may be present and there may also be occasional inclusions of other colours of slate, as well as smaller pieces of slate, white quartz or iron inclusions known as pyrites, which may appear as rust patches on the stones. These are entirely natural occurrences.

All advertised stone sizes are nominal and some colour variation from main images may occur -  as part of the manufacturing process it is normal for this product to contain smaller pieces, fines and dust. This will wash off with a hose or with rainfall. 

Stone Sizing

Our 20mm slate is typically graded between 5-30mm with a nominal size of 20mm and our 40mm slate is graded between 30-50mm with a nominal size of 40mm, therefore it is normal to find both larger and smaller pieces within your bag. If processed during wet weather the smaller fines tend to adhere to the larger pieces, giving the appearance that the slate is contaminated. Normally this will wash away with a period of rain or with a garden hose.

Coverage

The average depth of gravel required for borders, footpaths or decorative garden areas is 50mm, however it may be a good idea to increase this to 75mm for driveways. We highly recommend using our helpful aggregate calculator to approximate the amount required for your project. Please note that these coverage measurements do not allow for compaction.

• A full 850kg jumbo bulk bag will cover approximately 10-12m² at a depth of 50mm.
• A 450kg half jumbo bulk bag will cover approximately 5-6m² at a depth of 50mm.
• You'll need approximately three 23kg small bags to cover 1m² at a depth of 50mm.
