Patios and decking

1. Opt for an affordable paving pack

Over time, wear and tear and weathering takes a toll on your patio. Cracks often appear and the slabs may loosen or sink. If that happens, it’s time for a replacement – both for aesthetic and practical reasons. Luckily, we’ve just reduced many of our paving packs by over £100!

This includes popular AWBS Exclusive sandstone products, like Coastal Mix and Meadow Blend, designed to cover 15.22m². Now just £459, these handy project packs are also part of our brnd new free national delivery offer. Browse more eligible paving products on our blog.

2. Give your current patio a refresh

Alternatively, your patio may be structurally sound but lacking appeal due to a build-up of dirt and grime. In this case, a deep clean will help to bring it back to life in time for summer. From patio cleaner to algae remover, our paving care accessories range has everything you need.

In addition, if your garden furniture has seen better days, Oxford Garden Centre currently has some great offers on. Browse everything from benches to 6 seater sets to fit your space.

3. Invest in composite decking over timber

Thinking of updating your deck area or swapping out your patio? Then consider installing composite decking over timber. While it costs a bit more at the outset, this robust alternative lasts longer and requires minimal upkeep – saving you money in the long run. It also comes in a variety of colours and will not fade or warp, so is bound to look great for years to come.

Not sure whether composite is for you? Visit our Oxford display garden to see it in situ!

Paths and driveways

4. Re-gravel your driveway

Gravel is one of the cheapest and most popular surfacing options for drives. It’s also pretty easy to replace if it has compacted down or you want to change up the look of your garden.

At AWBS, we bag our own decorative gravel, so we’re able to offer great rates. Plus, we have a 5 for 4 offer on small bags right now – some come with a free weed membrane too!

5. Add interest with stepping stones

Want to add something extra to your lawn or gravel driveway? Stepping stones make for an eye-catching focal point and a practical pathway to prevent dents and worn grass. Better yet they’re easy to install and Bradstone’s natural stone styles are currently 5 for the price of 4! Choose from striking black limestone or classic buff sandstone to suit your preference.

6. Boost kerb appeal with block paving

Alternatively, why not replace your tired drive with a sleek new block paving? Formpave’s Royal Forest standard paving packs are great value for money at just £105 per 8.48m². There are multiple colours to choose from to complement your home and instantly boost its kerb appeal. You can even mix several shades and create unique patterns!

Beds and borders

7. Improve your soil for healthier plants

Spring is the time for planting beds, pots and more, but you may need to improve your soil’s condition first. This will promote plant health and deeper roots, making it easier for them to absorb nutrients. As such, they’ll require less watering and fare better in periods of drought.

At AWBS, we stock a range of market-leading topsoils by Rolawn to help make your garden soil more fertile to aid growth. In addition, adding simple bark mulch to your borders will help retain moisture in the soil by soaking up rainwater and releasing it into the ground slowly.

8. Build raised beds from timber sleepers

If run of the mill raised beds aren’t really your thing, how about building your own? From affordable softwoods to reclaimed railway sleepers, we have a range of styles that can be pieced together to create charming beds. So, whether you want to add colour with spring flowering perennials or grow your own veggies to save on rising food costs, look no further.

Lawns

9. Fertilise and neaten up your lawn

Grass starts to grow when ambient temperatures reach 8 degrees centigrade. With that in mind, late March to early April is a good time to get your lawn in shape for summer. If yours is looking a bit patchy, reseeding it now could help you avoid the cost and hassle of returfing.

At the same time, you can also add a layer of topdressing to level any uneven areas, and sprinkle on some fertiliser to revive your lawn’s lush green colour. Or if the grass is relatively healthy and just a bit unkempt, our affordable steel edging will help keep it off your paths.

Fences

10. Repair or replace damaged fencing

Winter snow and strong winds can wreak havoc on garden fencing, so when spring rolls around, it’s a good idea to check for damage. Broken fence panels are a common problem – especially if older and made of timber – and can negatively impact the look of your garden.

Fortunately, AWBS has a variety of solutions to combat this issue. We stock a large range of replacement fencing, trellis and gates at low prices. This includes our latest offer on Taf lap fence panels, now available with a free fence post per panel. Or you could upgrade to hardy composite fencing that can better withstand harsh weather conditions and will last for years.
