Find Garden Inspiration in our Landscaped Display Areas
When planning a garden or driveway project, it’s often hard to picture how products will look from a small sample. In fact, we think nothing beats seeing products installed in a real-life setting! That’s why all three AWBS branches – Oxford, Swindon and Yarnton – feature large display areas where you can get garden inspiration and ideas. At each branch you can see paving, fencing, gravel, decking and more fully installed.
By exploring patios, driveway surfaces and garden features in person, you’ll also get a better sense of colour, texture and scale to help you choose the right products. With that in mind, here’s what you can expect to find when you visit us…
Paving slabs for patios & paths
At AWBS, paving is one of our specialities. Across our displays, you’ll find a huge range of styles to suit every taste and budget. Options include natural stone slabs made from rustic Indian sandstone, and more contemporary limestone and slate pavers in various colours and finishes. You’ll also find stunning and highly durable porcelain paving examples by brands like Pavestone and Global Stone. Plus cost-effective concrete utility slabs for everyday use.
By viewing paving slabs in situ, you’ll see how different colours work together and discover different laying pattern ideas. It’s also a chance to see how the slabs feel underfoot to help determine whether you’d prefer a smooth or more riven surface.
Block paving for driveways
Our display areas also feature block paving, which is ideal for driveways due to its strength and smart appearance. These versatile blocks can be laid in countless patterns and colour combinations to create a unique finish. From simple linear designs to striking herringbone and basketweave layouts, there’s a design to suit every home. You can also have a look at permeable options like Brett Omega Flow – a legal requirement for new driveways over 5m2.
Walling, cladding and stone features
Walls and vertical finishes can make just as much impact as paving. At AWBS, our display areas showcase how different walling stone can be used for raised beds, garden steps, retaining walls or decorative boundaries. Browse natural stone designs and high-quality reproductions, including the popular Bekstone weathered limestone for added character.
You’ll also find several examples of exterior wall cladding which are ideal for refreshing tired walls, adding extra protection against the elements and tying together different parts of your garden. From sleek porcelain and stone tiles by Pavestone to easy-care composite cladding from ArborClad and Millboard, there are plenty of options. We can even supply matching composite fencing and decking – come see the authentic wood-grain finish up close!
Composite decking and fencing
If you like timber features but don’t want the upkeep, look no further! Our Oxford branch boasts one of the largest composite decking and fencing displays in the region. Covering around 10m x 35m, it features more than 18 styles and colours of splinter-free and fade-resistant Trex and Millboard decking, giving you the chance to compare before you buy.
We’ve also created raised planters and seating areas to show how versatile these products are. While lighting in the decking and railings demonstrates how designs can be tailored to your needs. Read more about Trex’s composite fencing system here.
Fencing and trellis
Additionally, our branches feature a range of fence panels and trellis from trusted names like Grange and Tafs. This includes budget-friendly lap panels, modern slatted designs and trellis-topped panels for added charm in cottage-style gardens. Whatever you’d prefer, you can see them in situ and get a feel for the quality. Garden trellis is also on display in many shapes and styles – ideal for climbing plants, creating privacy or simply adding interest.
Artificial turf for year-round greenery
Fed up with maintaining your lawn or cleaning up muddy footprints? Artificial grass could be the solution! Soft to the touch, fully UV stable and backed by generous warranties, this turf-alternative offers a simple solution for anyone wanting a neat, low-maintenance lawn. And it will look good every season! Browse our outdoor displays to see just how realistic it looks.
Decorative gravel & stones
Gravel is a highly versatile landscaping material that is fully permeable and comes in a host of sizes and colours. At AWBS, we have decorative gravel for borders, larger chippings for paths and driveways and larger cobbles and pebbles for rockeries and edging. Not sure which to go for? Visit your local branch to see different colours and textures in position. Our team will also be on hand to provide advice on the best size and shape for your needs. Most products are sourced locally and are available in small bags, half bags and jumbo bulk bags.
Resin bound gravel by Addagrip
Love the look of gravel but want a more stable surface that won’t shift? How about resin bound gravel? By coating and binding the aggregate, this system creates a smooth yet porous finish – perfect for driveways and paths. It’s SUDs compliant, easy to maintain and ideal for creating accessible surfaces without the planning requirements of traditional block paving. Plus, it’s much more visually appealing than asphalt! Four Seasons Feature Garden
If you haven’t visited before, the 235m2 Four Seasons Feature Garden at our sister business Oxford Garden Centre was designed by local garden designer Emma Bernard and is divided into seasonal zones around a central water feature. Other highlights include a folly with restored stone doorway, a gabion cage seating area with woven hazel screens and a thatched gazebo with views over the garden.
It’s the perfect place to gather ideas and visualise how plants and landscaping features could work in your own garden. And once you’ve finished exploring, there’s also a welcoming café for a coffee and a bite to eat!
