A Guide to Buying Artificial Turf

Artificial turf is now a widely popular choice for people as an alternative to real grass. There are a whole host of benefits to having an artificial turf lawn – from ease of care and all-year-round use, to being pet friendly and stunning to look at. Here’s a guide to artificial turf, so you know how to make the right choice to suit your needs.

First of all, let’s discuss what exactly artificial turf is. As the name suggests, it’s basically fake grass. However, in the past, this kind of ‘pretend’ turf looked very much like it! Now, if you use the best artificial turf, it really is hard to distinguish it from the real thing.

The benefits of artificial turf

As already briefly touched upon, artificial turf offers a whole range of benefits that a real grass lawn doesn’t. For a start, it needs virtually no looking after – no mowing, no weeding, just a simple hose down or a sweep is all it takes to keep it looking tip top. There are also no limits to when you can use your garden; you can enjoy being outside whatever the weather brings. It is great for children and, with pet-friendly artificial turf you’ll no longer need to worry about muddy paw prints, mess or hygiene.

Choosing the best artificial turf lawn

At AWBS we supply the highest quality artificial turf from artificialgrass.com. Available in three blade lengths (25mm, 30mm and 40mm) you can find the perfect one to suit you and your family. You can also choose different styles, such as putting green turf – a great addition to an outside space for budding golfers or enthusiasts with little time!

Shorter blade lengths are suitable for any kind of garden of any size, and are ideal for a neat and tidy look for an outside space that’s used by all the family. This is a good artificial turf for dogs, too, as it’s easy to spot any areas they may have been to the toilet and clean and disinfect it easily. For a really lush and luxurious look, a longer blade length creates a stunning lawn that’s soft to the touch and will look amazing all year round.

When it comes to colour, artificial turf emulates the distinct colour of real grass, with natural green tones and subtle hints of brown hues. While we stock the three most popular blade lengths, we are able to order other lengths and special colours if you wish to create a truly bespoke lawn. Your local AWBS branch also stocks everything you need to install artificial turf lawns.

Installing artificial turf

Once you’ve chosen your perfect turf, it’s relatively easy to install yourself if you want to. To help you, we’ve produced a ‘How to’ guide, which gives you step-by-step instructions for installing your artificial turf. However, often time and other commitments get in the way, so you may prefer to have your lawn installed for you. Our sister company, AWBS Landscaping, are specialists in installing artificial turf and Trading Standards approved, so you can be sure your artificial lawn will be installed to the very highest level of workmanship, using only the finest products. They also offer a guarantee on both their work and the products they use.

Looking after your artificial turf

Unlike a real lawn that needs mowing, weeding and strimming – and still sometimes doesn’t look good at the end of all of that – an artificial lawn takes virtually no care at all. With no need to water it or apply fertilisers it’s also kinder on your pocket and the environment too! For most people, a simple sweep or hose down is all it takes to keep it looking fresh and tidy, although some people prefer to hoover theirs! Sounds a bit crazy but it really does work. If you have pets, you can wash down any soiled areas and apply a disinfectant to keep it super hygienic, without any detrimental effect on your lawn. Having an artificial turf lawn really does save you a lot of time and effort.

All of our artificial turf comes with a seven-year warranty and is fully UV stable, so you have peace of mind your garden will stand the test of time and you’ll be able to enjoy your beautiful lawn for years to come.
