The Best Solutions For Garden Weed Control

Controlling weeds isn’t always easy. While you may automatically think you need to resort to chemicals as the best weapon against them, there are lots of other ways to prevent and control weeds before they take over.

Removing weeds from flower beds

Spring is the perfect time to put weed barriers in place and we have a wide range of solutions at AWBS.

Weed control fabric

Weed control fabric is a great way to supress weeds and reduce the amount of time you need to spend maintaining your garden. Using weed membrane helps to eliminate the need for chemicals and allows your plants to thrive. It’s also suitable for using under decking, pathways and patios.

At AWBS we stock high-quality weed membrane to suit a range of uses around the garden. Geotextile Woven Membrane is ideal for separation and filtration and can be used under bark, mulch, decorative stones, timber decking, artificial grass, gravel paths and patios. TDP50 Landscape Fabric can also be used in the same applications as a way of suppressing weed growth while allowing water, air and nutrients through to plant and shrub roots.

Mulch/bark chippings

A thick layer of mulch deprives weeds of the light they need to germinate, helping to prevent them from gaining a foothold. Covering bare soil with mulch means most weeds will never be able to come into contact with the soil. You can also use bark chippings on top of a weed control fabric. One of the biggest mistakes people make is not using enough mulch – a layer of at least two to three inches is essential to stop light getting through and make it effective for weed control.
