What is Joint-It porcelain paving grout?

Applying Joint-It epoxy liquid grout for porcelain paving

Designed for porcelain slabs positioned just 1-5mm apart, Joint-It’s porcelain patio grout is an advanced epoxy compound. Exceptionally strong once set, it is available in a versatile mid grey shade to complement various paver styles. This robust slab jointing compound will prevent debris and moisture from collecting in the joints to maintain an attractive-looking patio. On top of that, it also bonds even large pavers together for extra stability in high traffic areas.

Joint-It electric application kit for epoxy porcelain paving grout

In the past, some porcelain epoxy grouts were criticised for being hard to use and formulate. But that isn’t the case with Joint-It’s latest product. The resin and hardener that make up the two-part formula come in separate but connecting tubes. When placed into the applicator and triggered, these ingredients mix to create a ready-to-use product for a hassle-free grouting experience. Want to save even more time and effort? Upgrade to an all-in-one Pro Kit with an electric applicator, plus all the products and tools you’ll need for the job.

Why use resin jointing compound over classic patio grout?

Mess-free application

Whether you select the manual applicator or electric applicator, you can rest assured that there’ll be minimal mess involved. Traditional slurry grouts are notoriously messy and must be mixed with water before use. They are then swept in as a free-flowing liquid. Meanwhile, Joint-It porcelain paving grout formula is contained in the tubes and the nozzle applicator gives more accuracy and control. As such, there is considerably less cleaning up involved in the process.

Non-staining formula

The other problem with cement-based mortar grouts is that they must be washed off the slabs quickly to prevent staining. As a result, the application is much more time-sensitive. You’ll need to work as fast as possible and remove the excess product before it dries. But with our brand new porcelain epoxy grout, you don’t need to worry. Alongside being simpler to apply, it is fundamentally non-staining and any excess can easily be scraped off once dry.

Long-lasting durability

Just like the hard-wearing porcelain slabs it is designed to accompany, this new resin jointing compound is highly durable. It dries rock solid, doesn’t need sealing and it won’t crack or wear away over time, no matter the weather. This makes it one of the best low-maintenance grout solutions on the market. Not to mention one of the longest lasting options you can choose, with the epoxy formula providing at least a decade of assurance.

Impermeable once set

Another benefit of using Joint-It porcelain paving grout is its impermeability. In other words, when set, it won’t allow any moisture or dirt through the joints. This means that no weeds will grow between slabs and the patio will look like new even after several years. Simply sweep off any dust and debris or use a pressure washer set up to 7500 psi to clean it as needed. You can also wave goodbye to unsightly mildew for 10 plus years as part of the product guarantee.

Colour fast

Finally, while many sand cement mixes become discoloured over time as grime builds up, this porcelain patio grout won’t alter. In fact, it is entirely colour fast – even when exposed to heavy rain, UV rays and lots of foot traffic. You may spot a somewhat glossy film when you first apply the compound, but don’t panic. This shiny top layer will become matte within a couple of weeks. After that, you’ll be left with modern, discreet and effortlessly cohesive soft grey joints.

How to use Joint-It porcelain paving grout

Ready to give Joint-It outdoor porcelain grout a try on your latest paving project? Here’s how to go about it with the Pro Kit:

  1. Check the weather forecast to make sure there is no rain expected when you’re applying the resin jointing compound. You’ll also need to check the temperature falls between 5°C and 25°C to ensure it sets correctly.
  2. Start by applying a layer of the anti-bonding wax along the top of the joints just before you start. There is a sponge in the kit to help you do this. Don’t skip this step as the wax serves as a barrier to make removing the excess grout much easier.
  3. Next, take the cap off the grout tubes and attach the detailing nozzle. Then place it over the joint to gauge whether the nozzle is large enough to fill the gap with product. If not, trim the end off to create a wider applicator.
  4. When you’re happy, place the tubes with nozzle into the applicator, ensuring they’re pushed firmly into place. Then squeeze the handle to release a couple of centimetres of grout onto some paper towel. Discard this, then get to work with the mixed formula.
  5. Apply the grout slowly, dragging it towards you and filling the joint slightly above the level of your porcelain paving slabs. Once complete, leave it to set for 10-15 minutes.
  6. After this time, take the round finishing tool and use it to smooth out the grout in the joints. Then leave for a little longer until the grout feels hard to the touch (and not sticky). At this point, it will be ready for the tidying up stage.
  7. Use the scraper tool to peel off any dried-on excess product from around the joints. This tool makes it quick and easy and won’t damage the surface of the pavers. Then leave the grout to harden overnight and avoid walking over the joints until it is fully set.
