Undertaking any gardening, landscaping or building project can be daunting and time-consuming. Before you even begin, you have to decide what materials to use and, most importantly, how much you’re going to need. This isn’t always an easy task, but we’re here to help you with our selection of handy building materials calculators.
Whether you want to calculate an amount of aggregate or turf, or how many boards are required for a decking area or feather edge fencing, we have six easy-to-use project estimating calculators to help you on your way.
Blockwork calculator
To find out how many bricks or blocks you’ll need to cover an area, use our brick and walling calculator. Just enter the length and height of your proposed wall, select the type of blocks you’re using and whether it’s single or double skin, and you’ll quickly see how many blocks you need, as well as how much cement and sand.
Fencing cost calculator
If you’re looking to erect a feather edge fence, our fencing cost calculator is a quick and easy way to find out how many slats you’ll need and how much it will cost you. It will also tell you the amount of other materials required to complete your fence, such as counter rails, gravel boards and post mix. All you need to do is enter the length of the fence. Simple!

Turf calculator
Our turf calculator will help you determine how much turf and topsoil you’ll need to cover a desired area. By inputting the width and length of the area into our turf calculator, you’ll see how many bags of topsoil are required, the square metres of the area, and how many rolls of turf it will take to cover it.

Decking calculator
For an estimate of the amount of decking boards you’ll need for your project, our decking calculator is simple to use. Enter the width and length of the area, along with the gap required between the boards, and it’ll calculate the number of boards, the decking area in square metres, the number of joists you’ll need, and then the estimated price.
Aggregate calculator
Our aggregate calculator will help you estimate how much aggregate you’ll need to cover the area you require. The depth you’ll need depends on what size aggregate and what you’re using it for. Once you input the width, length and depth of the area, you’ll be given the number of bags of aggregate you’ll need (in 23kg poly bags and 850kg bulk bags) as well as the number of tonnes this equates to.
