What a Year for AWBS!
It’s been a busy 2018 for us here at AWBS, with exciting developments, awards and competitions – here we take a look at some of the highlights.
We kicked off the year with a big winner
In March we ran an Easter competition with the fabulous prize of a new patio and installation, worth over £5,000! The winner’s garden would be transformed with 30 square metres of AWBS Exclusive natural stone paving, in a colour and style of their choice, plus installation by AWBS Landscaping. Mr and Mrs Nash, from Abingdon in Oxfordshire, were the lucky winners and spent the glorious summer we had enjoying their garden and their brand-new patio.
Recognition for AWBS high driver and vehicle standards
In May we became the only builders merchants in the UK to be awarded founder member status of the government Earned Recognition Scheme. This scheme is a way of proving companies meet driver and vehicle standards, and has only been awarded to 60 companies across the whole of the UK. Our General Manager, Wyatt Tait, and Fleet Transport Manager, Simon Hunt, collected our award at the press Launch at the NEC. This prestigious accreditation was quite timely, given that in April we expanded our fleet of vehicles, with the addition of three new vans from the Oxford branch of Mercedes-Benz commercial dealer group, Rygor.
A new distribution centre for AWBS
In August we were delighted to announce that we’d acquired a new site in Eynsham, near Witney in Oxfordshire, giving us 10,907 square feet of dry storage within a site totalling 1.43 acres. The site is to become our main distribution centre, with the expanse of space meaning we can gold even more stock for direct delivery. This was phase one of a two-phase development, which will involve building offices at the site in 2020, making Eynsham the AWBS group’s new headquarters.
We bought a garden centre!
In October we made another exciting announcement about the purchase of Wyvale Garden Centre in Oxford, where our Hinksey branch was already based. Now known as Oxford Garden Centre, we welcomed the opportunity to further expand and offer customers even more choice when it comes to quality horticultural products and services.
